The Medici Family Tuscan History of Steak.

August 10 has long been the day devoted to honoring Saint Lorenzo and it was a custom that the famous Medici dynasty would roast oxen in the squares of Florence and share the meat with the city’s inhabitants.

As the story goes, during one of these celebrations in the second half of the sixteenth century, a group of English nobles happened upon the festivities and were so enamoured by the succulent meat that they called out “beef steak!”.

The Florentines transformed the phrase into the Italian word “Bistecca” which went on to become one of the best-loved Tuscan dishes in the world.

I Medici knife blades stay sharper than any other knives I’ve ever used. These knives continue to glide effortlessly through the meat even after heavy use.
